What Stood Out in Today's Bible Reading
2023 14:1 – Now Hiram king of Tyre sent messengers to David, and timber of cedars, with masons and carpenters, to build him an house. [compare John 14:1-3 – Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me. In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.] 14:2 – And David perceived that the LORD had confirmed him king over Israel, for his kingdom was lifted up on high, because of his people Israel. [compare I John 3:16 – Hereby perceive we the love of God, because he laid down his life for us: and we ought to lay down our lives for the brethren.] 14:10 – And David inquired of God, saying, Shall I go up against the Philistines? and wilt thou deliver them into mine hand? Prov. 19:20-21 – Hear counsel, and receive instruction, that thou mayest be wise in thy latter end. There are many devices in a man's heart; nevertheless the counsel of the LORD, that shall stand. Is. 46:9-10 – Remember the former things of old: for I am God, and there is none else; I am God, and there is none like me, Declaring the end from the beginning, and from ancient times the things that are not yet done, saying, My counsel shall stand, and I will do all my pleasure; James 1:5-8 – If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him. But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed. For let not that man think that he shall receive any thing of the Lord. A double minded man is unstable in all his ways.] 14:17 – And the fame of David went out into all lands; and the LORD brought the fear of him upon all nations. [cf. Deu. 2:25 – This day will I begin to put the dread of thee and the fear of thee upon the nations that are under the whole heaven, who shall hear report of thee, and shall tremble, and be in anguish because of thee.] 15:1 – And David made him houses in the city of David, and prepared a place for the ark of God, and pitched for it a tent. If any man defile the temple of God, him shall God destroy; for the temple of God is holy, which temple ye are. I Cor. 6:18-20 – Flee fornication. Every sin that a man doeth is without the body; but he that committeth fornication sinneth against his own body. What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own? For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's. II Cor. 6:14-16 – Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness? And what concord hath Christ with Belial? or what part hath he that believeth with an infidel? And what agreement hath the temple of God with idols? for ye are the temple of the living God; as God hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people.] 15:12 – And said unto them, Ye are the chief of the fathers of the Levites: sanctify yourselves, both ye and your brethren, that ye may bring up the ark of the LORD God of Israel unto the place that I have prepared for it. Ps. 150 – Praise ye the LORD. Praise God in his sanctuary: praise him in the firmament of his power. Praise him for his mighty acts: praise him according to his excellent greatness. Praise him with the sound of the trumpet: praise him with the psaltery and harp. Praise him with the timbrel and dance: praise him with stringed instruments and organs. Praise him upon the loud cymbals: praise him upon the high sounding cymbals. Let every thing that hath breath praise the LORD. Praise ye the LORD.] 15:21 – And Mattithiah, and Elipheleh, and Mikneiah, and Obed-edom, and Jeiel, and Azaziah, with harps on the Sheminith to excel. [cf. Ps. 141:3 – Set a watch, O LORD, before my mouth; keep the door of my lips. For if they escaped not who refused him that spake on earth, much more shall not we escape, if we turn away from him that speaketh from heaven: Whose voice then shook the earth: but now he hath promised, saying, Yet once more I shake not the earth only, but also heaven. And this word, Yet once more, signifieth the removing of those things that are shaken, as of things that are made, that those things which cannot be shaken may remain. Matt. 20:25-28 – But Jesus called them unto him, and said, Ye know that the princes of the Gentiles exercise dominion over them, and they that are great exercise authority upon them. But it shall not be so among you: but whosoever will be great among you, let him be your minister; And whosoever will be chief among you, let him be your servant: Even as the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many. Mark 10:42-45 – But Jesus called them to him, and saith unto them, Ye know that they which are accounted to rule over the Gentiles exercise lordship over them; and their great ones exercise authority upon them. But so shall it not be among you: but whosoever will be great among you, shall be your minister: And whosoever of you will be the chiefest, shall be servant of all. Philip. 2:3-8 – Let nothing be done through strife or vainglory; but in lowliness of mind let each esteem other better than themselves. Amen.] 16:24 – Declare his glory among the heathen; his marvellous works among all nations. [cf. Amen.]
2021 14:2 – And David perceived that the LORD had
confirmed him king over Israel, for his kingdom was lifted up on
high, because of his people Israel. [cf. I Kings 10:9 – 14:12 – And when they had left their gods there, David gave a commandment, and they were burned with fire. [cf. Rev. 9:20 – And the rest of the men which were not killed by these plagues yet repented not of the works of their hands, that they should not worship devils, and idols of gold, and silver, and brass, and stone, and of wood: which neither can see, nor hear, nor walk] 14:17 – And the fame of David went out into all lands; and the LORD brought the fear of him upon all nations. 15:1 – And David made him houses in the city of David [David had numerous wives (II Sam. 3:2-5; 5:13); could even two of them get along in the same house?! [The sons of Levi were Gershon, Kohath, and Merari (Gen. 46:11; Ex. 6:16). Kohath, the second son, from whom descended Aaron and the priests (Josh. 21:10; Lev. 1:5,8,11; et. al.), is listed first here in I Chr. 15. Elizaphan, Hebron, and Uzziel, listed in vv. 8-10, are all descendants of Kohath – Hebron and Uzziel are sons of Kohath (Ex. 6:18), Elizaphan is a son of Uzziel (Num. 3:30). Thus, all those mentioned in vv. 5,8-10 are descendants of Kohath.] 15:11,15-16 – 11 And David called for Zadok
and Abiathar the priests, and for the Levites, for Uriel,
Asaiah, and Joel, Shemaiah, and Eliel, and Amminadab, ... 15 And the children of the Levites bare the ark of God upon their shoulders with the staves thereon, as Moses commanded according to the word of the LORD. 16 And David spake to the chief of the Levites to appoint their brethren to be the singers with instruments of musick, psalteries and harps and cymbals, sounding, by lifting up the voice with joy. [Zadok and Abiathar the priests ... bare the ark of God upon their shoulders (Deu. 31:9; Josh. 3:3). The Levites ...
