Acts 12:4 (2024) – And when he had apprehended him, he put him in prison, and delivered him to four quaternions of soldiers to keep him; intending after Easter to bring him forth to the people. [cf. v. 5 – Peter therefore was kept in prison: but prayer was made without ceasing of the church unto God for him. v. 7 – And, behold, the angel of the Lord came upon him, and a light shined in the prison: and he smote Peter on the side, and raised him up, saying, Arise up quickly. And his chains fell off from his hands. Matt. 4:12 – Now when Jesus had heard that John was cast into prison, he departed into Galilee; Matt. 11:2 – Now when John had heard in the prison the works of Christ, he sent two of his disciples; Matt. 14:3 – For Herod had laid hold on John, and bound him, and put him in prison for Herodias' sake, his brother Philip's wife. Women received their dead raised to life again: and others were tortured, not accepting deliverance; that they might obtain a better resurrection: And others had trial of cruel mockings and scourgings, yea, moreover of bonds and imprisonment: They were stoned, they were sawn asunder, were tempted, were slain with the sword: they wandered about in sheepskins and goatskins; being destitute, afflicted, tormented; (Of whom the world was not worthy:) they wandered in deserts, and in mountains, and in dens and caves of the earth. And these all, having obtained a good report through faith, received not the promise: God having provided some better thing for us, that they without us should not be made perfect. Ps. 146:5-7 – Happy is he that hath the God of Jacob for his help, whose hope is in the LORD his God: Which made heaven, and earth, the sea, and all that therein is: which keepeth truth for ever: Which executeth judgment for the oppressed: which giveth food to the hungry.
