Luke 20:2 (2023) – And spake unto him, saying, Tell us, by what authority doest thou these things? or who is he that gave thee this authority? [cf. Matt. 21:23 – And when he was come into the temple, the chief priests and the elders of the people came unto him as he was teaching, and said, By what authority doest thou these things? and who gave thee this authority? Mark 11:28 – And say unto him, By what authority doest thou these things? and who gave thee this authority to do these things? Matt. 7:28-29 – And it came to pass, when Jesus had ended these sayings, the people were astonished at his doctrine: For he taught them as one having authority, and not as the scribes. Mark 1:22 – And they were astonished at his doctrine: for he taught them as one that had authority, and not as the scribes.
