Mark 8:15 – And he charged them, saying, Take heed, beware of the leaven of the Pharisees, and of the leaven of Herod. (2023) – And he charged them, saying, Take heed, beware of the leaven of the Pharisees, and of the leaven of Herod. [cf. Mark 12:13 – And they send unto him certain of the Pharisees and of the Herodians, to catch him in his words. Matt. 22:15-28 – Then went the Pharisees, and took counsel how they might entangle him in his talk. And they sent out unto him their disciples with the Herodians, saying, Master, we know that thou art true, and teachest the way of God in truth, neither carest thou for any man: for thou regardest not the person of men. Tell us therefore, What thinkest thou? Is it lawful to give tribute unto Caesar, or not? But Jesus perceived their wickedness, and said, Why tempt ye me, ye hypocrites? I Cor. 5:8 – Therefore let us keep the feast, not with old leaven, neither with the leaven of malice and wickedness; but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth.] (2021) – And he charged them, saying, Take heed, beware of the leaven of the Pharisees, and of the leaven of Herod. [Herod accepted the people's declaration that he was a god. Cf. Acts 12:21-23 – And upon a set day Herod, arrayed in royal apparel, sat upon his throne, and made an oration unto them. And immediately the angel of the Lord smote him, because he gave not God the glory: and he was eaten of worms, and gave up the ghost. Ex. 20:3 – Thou shalt have no other gods before me. Ps. 118:8-9 – It is better to trust in the LORD than to put confidence in man. It is better to trust in the LORD than to put confidence in princes. Ps. 146:3 – Put not your trust in princes, nor in the son of man, in whom there is no help.
