Matthew 22:18 (2024) – But Jesus perceived their wickedness, and said, Why tempt ye me, ye hypocrites? [cf. v. 35 – Then one of them, which was a lawyer, asked him a question, tempting him, and saying; Deu. 6:16 – Ye shall not tempt the LORD your God, as ye tempted him in Massah. Matt. 4:7 – Jesus said unto him, It is written again, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God. Luke 4:12 – And Jesus answering said unto him, It is said, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God. Ex. 17:2 – Wherefore the people did chide with Moses, and said, Give us water that we may drink.
