Esther 9:10 (2021) – The ten sons of Haman the son of Hammedatha, the enemy of the Jews, slew they; but on the spoil laid they not their hand. [The decree written by Mordecai and authorized by the king had authorized the Jews to take the spoil of their adversaries (8:10-11). This reflected the decree that had been written against the Jews (3:13). The Jews' abstention from taking the spoil is proof that they were not motivated by covetousness. Cf. also 9:15-16 – For the Jews that were in Shushan gathered themselves together on the fourteenth day also of the month Adar, and slew three hundred men at Shushan; but on the prey they laid not their hand.
