Judges 9:9 (2025) – But the olive tree said unto them, Should I leave my fatness, wherewith by me they honour God and man, and go to be promoted over the trees? [cf. v. 11 – But the fig tree said unto them, Should I forsake my sweetness, and my good fruit, and go to be promoted over the trees? v. 13 – And the vine said unto them, Should I leave my wine, which cheereth God and man, and go to be promoted over the trees? Ps. 75:4-7 – I said unto the fools, Deal not foolishly: and to the wicked, Lift not up the horn: Lift not up your horn on high: speak not with a stiff neck. For promotion cometh neither from the east, nor from the west, nor from the south. But God is the judge: he putteth down one, and setteth up another.
