Judges 1:8 (2021) – Now the children of Judah had fought against Jerusalem, and had taken it, and smitten it with the edge of the sword, and set the city on fire. [cf. v. 21 – And the children of Benjamin did not drive out the Jebusites that inhabited Jerusalem; but the Jebusites dwell with the children of Benjamin in Jerusalem unto this day. Jerusalem was at the border between Judah and Benjamin. Apparently Judah did its part to take its part of Jerusalem, but Benjamin failed to do its part to drive the Jebusites out of its part of Jerusalem. By the time of David, who was of the tribe of Judah, the Jebusites had taken over Jerusalem and had to be conquered by David (II Sam. 5:6-9). Regarding cities on the border, in our day, to name a few, Kansas City is shared by Kansas and Missouri, Bristol is shared by Tennessee and Virginia, and, even more interesting, Sault Ste Marie is shared by Michigan in the U.S. and Ontario in Canada.
