How Numbers 26:51 Stood Out

Numbers 26:51 (2026) – These were the numbered of the children of Israel, six hundred thousand and a thousand seven hundred and thirty. [compare 1:46 – Even all they that were numbered were six hundred thousand and three thousand and five hundred and fifty. [The numbering in 1:46 was before they wandered in the wilderness. The numbering in 26:51 was at the end of the wilderness wandering. Notice that the second number is slightly less than the first. Those that came into the wilderness had died (except for Joshua and Caleb) and were mostly replaced by the new generation which would enter into the promised land. Num. 14:29-32 – Your carcases shall fall in this wilderness; and all that were numbered of you, according to your whole number, from twenty years old and upward, which have murmured against me, Doubtless ye shall not come into the land, concerning which I sware to make you dwell therein, save Caleb the son of Jephunneh, and Joshua the son of Nun. But your little ones, which ye said should be a prey, them will I bring in, and they shall know the land which ye have despised. But as for you, your carcases, they shall fall in this wilderness.]]
