Genesis 38:17 (2026) – And he said, I will send thee a kid from the flock. And she said, Wilt thou give me a pledge, till thou send it? [cf. v. 20 – And Judah sent the kid by the hand of his friend the Adullamite, to receive his pledge from the woman's hand: but he found her not. v. 23 – And Judah said, Let her take it to her, lest we be shamed: behold, I sent this kid, and thou hast not found her. Compare Is. 53:2-5 – For he shall grow up before him as a tender plant, and as a root out of a dry ground: he hath no form nor comeliness; and when we shall see him, there is no beauty that we should desire him. He is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and we hid as it were our faces from him; he was despised, and we esteemed him not. Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted. But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed. Luke 1:78 – Through the tender mercy of our God; whereby the dayspring from on high hath visited us; James 5:11 – Behold, we count them happy which endure.
