2023 4:1 – And Jesus being full of the Holy Ghost returned from Jordan, and was led by the Spirit into the wilderness [cf. Eph. 5:18-21 – And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit; Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord; Giving thanks always for all things unto God and the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ; Submitting yourselves one to another in the fear of God.] 4:2 – Being forty days tempted of the devil. And in those days he did eat nothing: and when they were ended, he afterward hungered. [cf. James 1:13-16 – Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God: for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempteth he any man: But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed. [It has been suggested that this refers to the scribes and Pharisees who were from that area. It has also been suggested that, since Luke was writing to Gentiles, he used their to refer to the Jews.]
