2023 1:3 – Because of the savour of thy good ointments thy name is as ointment poured forth, therefore do the virgins love thee. [compare Ecc. 7:1 – A good name is better than precious ointment; and the day of death than the day of one's birth.] 1:4 – Draw me, we will run after thee: the king hath brought me into his chambers: we will be glad and rejoice in thee, we will remember thy love more than wine: the upright love thee. [cf. James 4:7-10 – Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded. Be afflicted, and mourn, and weep: let your laughter be turned to mourning, and your joy to heaviness. Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up.] 1:6 – Look not upon me, because I am black, because the sun hath looked upon me: my mother's children were angry with me; they made me the keeper of the vineyards; but mine own vineyard have I not kept. [compare Prov. 5:3-5 – For the lips of a strange woman drop as an honeycomb, and her mouth is smoother than oil: But her end is bitter as wormwood, sharp as a twoedged sword. Her feet go down to death; her steps take hold on hell.] 4:15 – A fountain of gardens, a well of living waters, and streams from Lebanon. He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water.
